Autonomous Productions is a West Australian-based theatre company specialising in dynamic new performance by young artists.

Autonomous Productions provides experienced artists as well as enthusiastic and industrious newcomers the occasion to create original and unexpected work with broad appeal.

Originally established in 1998 as a youth theatre company by director Malcolm Rock, Autonomous Productions was incorporated in 2002 and has since matured to include two distinct branches: AP Theatre and AP Youth. 

AP Theatre  
AP Theatre creates bold professional performances to stir and inspire the active theatregoer.

AP Theatre aims to put outstanding talent on the stage in order to tell an engaging new story or an old story in a fresh, theatrically inventive fashion.

AP Theatre covers works by classical and contemporary writers while also granting opportunities for new writers to have their scripts read and performed.

AP Theatre is always on the lookout for gifted performers, technical artists, designers and directors to pitch their ideas and contribute to the positive work of the company.		  
AP Youth
Autonomous Productions sees the experience of theatre as especially beneficial for young people who are developing socially, emotionally and artistically. AP Youth is theatre made for youth by youth.

With all aspects of production coordinated by artists aged 13 – 25, AP Youth acts as a steppingstone towards future work in the theatre industry. It is the perfect vehicle through which young people can showcase and cultivate their talents.

AP Youth performances aim to be particularly youth-oriented and geared to attract first-time artists and young theatregoers. The content of productions is usually adapted and interpreted in a manner relevant for the youth of today.

AP Youth offers the chance for school students to see young people their own age bringing unique life to some of the best stories ever told.
The diverse and dedicated artists elected to the Autonomous Productions board are open to new ideas for improving the company’s missions and better allowing members to practise and improve their chosen stagecraft.

Autonomous Productions is a valuable platform for the presentation of young artists destined to inherit and advance our exciting industry.
